Effective for the 2020-2021 season Minor Hockey Associations, including those in the Ontario Hockey Federation (ALLIANCE, GTHL, OMHA, NOHA and the OWHA) will be following the U7 (IP), U9 (Novice) and U11 (Atom) Player Pathways.

With the implementation of the U11 (Atom) Player Pathway for the 2020-2021 season, key changes have been made to the Player Pathways at U7 (Initiation Program) and U9 (Novice). This will create consistency in all programming across the country and a seamless transition for players from U7 (IP) through to U11 (Atom) based on the "Long Term Player Development" model. The Player Pathways provide local minor hockey associations a framework of age appropriate development guidelines which includes an optimal seasonal structure. Read More

Changes to simplify the minor hockey system to go into effect next season

CALGARY, Alta. – At its Winter Congress this weekend in Montreal, the Hockey Canada membership approved a regulation change proposed by the board of directors to revise the naming of the age divisions used in minor hockey across Canada. Following the recommendations of a task team, the age divisions will become U7, U9, U11 through to U21, impacting all minor and female hockey programs under the Hockey Canada umbrella. The change was initiated by Hockey Canada and its 13 provincial and territorial members and will be implemented nationally with their input and support for the 2020-21 season. Read More
