Minor Peewee Red vs. Cambridge
Submitted By Ryan Arsenault on Monday, October 7, 2019
On Saturday the Minor Peewee Red Bulldogs opened their home schedule against the Cambridge Hawks.

The high flying first place Cambridge Hawks came into the Dog Pound looking to take it to the Dogs.  The Dogs (who were well rested after not playing a game for a few weeks) came out of their cages a little slow and lethargic.  The Hawks played with a lot of intensity right off the start.  They were hard on puck and hemmed the Dogs into their own zone throughout the first period.  Our goalie, Vince "Give me More" Morelli, was up to the task and kept the Dogs in the period and, through his stellar play, the Dogs escaped the first period down only 1-0.

The end of the first horn must of woken up the Dogs as they began to skate with Hawks.  Nate "The Skate" Arsenault was rushing the puck up the ice frequently and on one rush he narrowly missed the top left corner with a shot off the Hawks goalie's knob of his stick.  The Dogs started putting more pucks on net (according to ace statistician "Stats" Slavica) and outshot the Hawks 9-7.  The Hawks were able to squeak another goal in and the second period ended Hawks 2, Dogs 0.

The third period was an all out battle for 15 minutes.  The Dogs kept up with the Hawks and had a few opportunities with Brody "The Mighty" Quinn coming close to besting the Hawks goalie while driving the net.  The Dogs worked hard, but just couldn't dent the twine.  The Dogs defence were moving their feet and steering the Hawks attackers off to the corner.  Evan "Mr. Wizard" Beattie demonstrated this tactic superbly as he used his massive reach to keep the Hawks at bay.  In the end though the Hawks scored a late one and won the game
3-0.

Plenty of positives to take away from this effort for the Dogs.  They will look to open up the winning account next weekend with a pair of games.  They are on the road on Saturday vs. Woodstock Navy Vets and at home on Thanksgiving Sunday vs. Waterloo Wolves.

Next opportunity to learn and get better:  Practice Tuesday Appleby 1 - 5:00-6:30.
