What kind of hockey programming does BLOMHA offer? What are the different programs?

1) Non Competitive Hockey Program - House League:

The foundation of BLOMHA has always been our House League program. BLOMHA offers a FUN and exciting House League program for boys and girls ages 4-18. These programs are community run and operate on the principals of good sportsmanship, discipline, team work and the fair treatment of others under all circumstances and all conditions. In existence since 1951, BLOMHA has seen many of Burlington's youth graduate to enjoy healthy and happy lifestyles through the lessons they learned while playing hockey with BLOMHA. Many return as volunteers to work with the next generation of our youth hockey players.

BLOMHA is also the proud host of an Annual House League Tournament that is run during March Break. This tournament attracts teams from across Ontario. 2020 marked the 40th year of our popular House League Tournament.

BLOMHA also provides an introductory hockey program for 4, 5, 6 and 7 year olds. These players learn the game of hockey in a fun and safe environment. No scores are kept and the emphasis is on having fun while improving hockey skills. This program is called the Initiation Program as it is named by Hockey Canada. For players that are between 4 and 7 years of age, please click here for more information regarding this program.

2) House League Competitive Program -
House League SELECT:

Players who register for House League and play on House League teams are also permitted to tryout for our House League Select Teams. There is no body checking in our Select program. Players on House League Select teams can play up to an additional thirty (30) games in addition to their weekly House League schedule. The Select teams may also enter and participate in tournaments. For the 2020-2021 season we will have teams in age categories from U9 (Novice) to U18 (Midget).

3) Competitive Hockey Programming - Rep MD:

BLOMHA also operates a level of REP hockey called MD (Minor Development) for players from age 7 to 17 years old. There is no body checking in the Rep MD program. These teams compete in regular season play against other Minor Hockey Alliance centres in Southwestern Ontario such as Hamilton, Brantford, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Stratford, Woodstock and St. Catharines. This program is offered from Under 8 (Minor Novice) through Under 18 (Midget) and requires many hours of commitment from coaches and families. These are stand alone teams and players do not participate in any House League programming receiving up to four (4) ice events each week.

If you want to begin playing hockey with BLOMHA, where do you go to register?

For the House League (Non-Competitive) program: Please go to the House League TAB.

For House League Select (Competitive HL program): Please go to the House League Select TAB.

For Rep MD (Competitive program): Please click here or go to the Rep MD Bulldogs TAB.

Can I play House League and REP at the same time?

No, you cannot. Rep MD is a high commitment program with players that are excelling in their age group. These teams may travel for their weekly games and tournaments and receive up to four (4) ice events each week.

To play House League Select or Rep MD, does my child need to be very skilled?

The House League Select and Rep MD teams are picked through tryouts, however anyone is welcome to come and participate in these tryout sessions. Head Coaches with the assistance of the Director of Coaching pick players from the tryouts for their Select or MD teams. Unfortunately not everyone who attends these tryouts is guaranteed or offered a position on a MD or Select team.
