U12 Select BLUE brings home GOLD
Congratulations to the U12 Select Bulldogs Blue team who had an exceptional weekend at the Vaughan Rangers Select Memorial Tournament. Click "read more" for details.
The team finished 2-0-1 in the round robin portion of the tournament, battling back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the Vaughan Rangers Blue team 6-6.
After a quick 3 on 3 overtime win in the semi final, Burlington got a rematch against Vaughan for the championship. Down 1-0 with two minutes left in the third period, Burlington drove the puck deep in Vaughan's end and pulled its goalie. With 25 seconds left on the clock, Burlington scored the equalizer to send the game to a 10 minute, sudden death 3 on 3 overtime period.
Overtime was a fast paced roller coaster ride, with both teams exchanging chances and goaltenders standing on their heads to keep their teams in the game.
Incredibly, the first overtime period solved nothing and the teams entered the fifth period of hockey still tied.
With four minutes left in the second overtime, Burlington scored to win the championship in what the Tournament Convenor identified as the longest game in tournament history. Huge congratulations to the players and coaches for a well played and well coached tournament that none of them will soon forget!
