In recent years, BLOMHA has accepted Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC) and documented them on your Hockey Canada Registration profile. As of the 2024-2025 season, the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) has taken over this process. We ask that you follow the instructions below to ensure that the OHF receives your VSC. This is a mandatory part of volunteering with BLOMHA for all positions (including On-Ice Helpers) and you will not be insured, permitted on the ice/bench or recognized as a volunteer until this process and the additional requirements on the previous page have been completed.
Please do not:
- Upload your VSC to the "documents" section of your profile
- Send anyone at BLOMHA your VSC
If you need a hand with this process we are more than happy to assist you. Please come to the BLOMHA office. We are offering help sessions specifically for VSC's on Thursday evenings from 4-7pm all Summer. Please come to our office prepared with a digital (PDF only) or paper copy of your VSC as well as your Spordle password. |
Instructions:
1. Did you submit a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) last season?
If you need to check, log in to myaccount.spordle.com, click "members" on the left-hand side, click your initials, and navigate to the "Background Check" tab.
Please note that VSC's that have been uploaded to the "documents" section of your profile were not submitted correctly. It must appear under the "Background Check" section of your profile, and it will only appear here if you submit it to the Ontario Hockey Federation.
2. If you DID submit a VSC last season, and it is still valid:
A VSC completed in May 2023 onward is still valid for the 2025-2026 season.
Click here to complete the annual mandatory declaration. Please ensure you receive a confirmation email.

Once you receive a successful confirmation email, you are done with the VSC process.
3. If you need to submit a new VSC:
Request a VSC from your local police station. This can usually be done online.
Click here to submit a new VSC. Any VSC done within the last 3 years (May 2023 onward) is valid. If you mistakenly uploaded your VSC to your document section, you can still submit that file to the OHF via the above link.

We recommend opening #1 in a new tab or window, and once you have successfully submitted your VSC, you must return to this form and proceed (#2). There are a few more questions that will populate after you click "Next."
Once you receive an email from the OHF that confirms your submission was updated on your HCR profile, you are done with the VSC process.

FAQ:
1. Who needs a Vulnerable Sector Check?
All volunteers age 18 and above in any role.
2. Where do I get a VSC?
Your local police station. It can often be done online.
3. Who do I contact for help with this process?
- If you have questions about your VSC submission or have encountered an error when uploading, please reach out to the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), at [email protected].
- If you need a hand with submitting your VSC, please bring a physical copy of your VSC or a file (PDF) to BLOMHA. We are specifically offering to help folks with this process on Thursdays from 4-7pm. You will also need your Spordle password so that we can properly assist you. The digital file should be accessible/saved on your device (cell phone or tablet - bring that with you), or in your email (ie: the email from the police that includes your VSC attached).
4. How long is my VSC good for?
VSC's are good for three years from the completion date and are good until the end of the hockey season. IE: if your VSC was completed August 15th 2025, it is good until May 31st 2028.
5. What is the declaration?
The annual criminal offence declaration is what keeps your VSC valid with the OHF. You fill it out before each season to confirm with the OHF that you remain eligible to volunteer with those in the vulnerable sector.
6. Can I submit a Criminal Offence Check, or another kind of record check?
No. The only document that will be accepted is a Vulnerable Sector Check. There is nothing "better" than this.
7. What do I do if I have a continuous VSC for my job or am employed in law enforcement?
You still must submit the document to the OHF. Your job may have a copy of the document, check in with them.
8. Does BLOMHA cover the cost associated with VSC's?
No.
9. Can I get a volunteer letter for the police confirming that I need this check?
Yes. Click here to be directed to that letter.
10. The police are asking me to come in and get finger-printed - what does this mean?
This typically means that someone with the same name and birth year as you has committed a crime elsewhere in Canada. Getting finger-printed confirms you are not that person. Getting finger-printed does not impact your VSC status with the OHF or BLOMHA. We won't know unless you tell us, which is not required or necessary.
