The Program:

BLOMHA's House League program is primarily intended to provide players from ages 9 - 18 years old the opportunity to play recreational hockey. There are no tryouts, each player is assigned to a team in the appropriate age division. Usually, teams have one designated practice ice session and one game ice session per week, with the exception of U19.

BLOMHA's goal is to provide a positive environment that encourages respect, discipline and good sportsmanship among coaches, players, parents and game officials. For the players, the primary goals are to:
- Have fun!
- Learn the fundamentals of the game
- Learn the importance of camaraderie and good sportsmanship

Schedule Information:

August 2025: Please note that other than what is outlined below, we do not have any specific schedule information yet.

- U19 will play games on Sundays. There are no practice ice sessions for this age division. They will play a minimum of 20 games throughout the season, including playoffs.
- All other age divisions will usually be scheduled for one practice and one game each week, pending ice-availability.
- U9 - U16 will be on the ice a minimum of 38 times between games, practices and playoffs.
- Due to many variables, not all teams will end up with the exact same number of ice sessions at the end of the year.
- Last season (2024-2025), most ice sessions were on weekends. Our ice package with the City of Burlington changes from year to year, so this may change for 2025-2026.
- All teams will share practice ice with another team.
- We expect to release the days & time slots for all age divisions in mid-September.

Please note that while we make every effort to reschedule any ice sessions that do not move forward due to poor weather, equipment malfunction, ice double-bookings, etc., we cannot guarantee that your ice session will be rescheduled. No refunds will be issued for ice sessions that are cancelled.

A Note on Suspensions:

Click here to access the Ontario Hockey Federation minimum suspension list for 2024-2025. The updated list for 2025-2026 will be linked when it becomes available.

BLOMHA referees use the OHF minimum suspension list to assign penalties and/or suspensions when necessary. The BLOMHA office and your player's coach have no authority to change any assigned penalties or suspensions. All complaints regarding infractions and suspensions must observe a 24 hour "cool down period" after the incident before reporting it to BLOMHA. This includes infractions assigned to Coaches and other bench staff.

BLOMHA reserves the right to assign suspensions/additional games at our discretion. The length of these are determined by the Directors of House League after they review the incident and referee reports.

We recommend reviewing the more serious infractions with your player so that they understand the consequences of a suspension and what might lead to one.

No, we do not accept friend requests at these age divisions.

3. How are teams formed?

U9 - U13: The Director of U6 - U13 House League, Lisa Glenham-Kachiuk, collects player evaluations from coaches every season. These evaluations are used to form teams so that they are as evenly matched as possible. Select players will also be distributed across House League teams by Lisa.

We prioritize parity among divisions, and for this reason, your player may be moved to another team after the season has started. The only person who can move your player is Lisa, or a BLOMHA office representative. We appreciate your cooperation.

U14 - U19: The Director of U14 - U19, Scott Winslow, works with coaches to form teams that are as evenly matched as possible. Select players will also be distributed across House League teams by Scott. For these age divisions, BLOMHA keeps player ratings from year to year, updating them as players move through the age divisions. Scott works closely with coaches to ensure that the player skill level information he has is accurate.
