Quick Facts -

  • BLOMHA runs a level of competitive Rep hockey, referred to as "B/BB" (U10-U18) and "MD" (minor development, U8-U9). These programs are for players age 7 to 17 years old.
  • There is no body checking at these levels.
  • Colours affiliated with BLOMHA teams (ie: U10 BB White) do not designate a particular skill level. Our coaches will choose their teams from the same pool of players, and teams are not tiered internally.
  • Teams compete in the regular season against other Minor Hockey (Alliance affiliated) centers across Southwestern Ontario, such as Hamilton, Brantford, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Stratford, Woodstock and St. Catherine's. In December, they are tiered into "B" and "BB" by our governing body, Alliance Hockey, and play their remaining season games vs. other teams in the same tier.
  • At the most basic level, the registration fee covers your player's uniform and socks (home and away), up to 4 ice sessions per week at local Burlington rinks, development sessions with BLOMHA pro instructors, Alliance Championship registration fee (where applicable), use of the BLOMHA locker room at Appleby Ice Centre and BLOMHA classroom/board room, and a moderate team tournament budget.
  • Tryout registration for U10-U18 will open in April 2025. Evaluation registration for U8 & U9 will open in June.
  • U10 - U18 evaluations will take place in the first two weeks of May. U8 & U9 evaluations will be held in early September,

  • Schedule: Our practice schedule for teams is generally the same for the whole season. There may be the occasional changes based on the ice availability in the city or special events/holidays occurring. However, for the most part, your practices will be at the same time and rink, week after week.

  • Development program: We support player growth by offering teams 12 player sessions and 6 goalie sessions throughout the season with BLOMHA pro instructors. These sessions focus on both player and goalie training to teach everyone the same basic mechanics of skating, shooting, passing and playing in goal. This plan focuses on a month to month guideline, allowing coaches and players to peak at the right time and improve their team play and individual skills. These instructors are also available to be hired by teams for additional development sessions, should your team choose to use their budget that way.

  • Goalie equipment program: BLOMHA has a robust inventory of goalie equipment for your player to borrow throughout the season if needed.

  • Cost: Our program will assign teams a moderate tournament budget, but families have the opportunity to fundraise to offset any additional costs. Teams are also able to accept sponsorship donations to bolster their fundraising.

  • Office staff: BLOMHA has 2 full time office staff available to answer your questions throughout the season.

  • Volunteer opportunities: Parents may have the opportunity to join a team's bench staff, be a parent rep, contribute to fundraising, etc.
