This course must be taken before taking Coach 2.
Gender Identity & Expression
This course is required for ALL bench staff positions at ALL levels.

Respect in Sport Activity Leader (RIS-AL)

This certification is required for all bench staff. It is NOT the same as Respect in Sport Parent (RIS-P) and they cannot be substituted for one another. All bench staff must take both RIS-AL & RIS-P

Hockey Trainers Ontario Cert (main Trainer certification)

This certification is required for all bench staff who wish to hold the position of Trainer at ALL levels. This certification must be renewed every three years BEFORE the expiration date, or the full course will need to be completed again. This expiration date can be viewed on the participants Hockey Canada Registration profile, and they are responsible for maintaining the certification. Please note that NO EXPERIENCE OR DIFFERENT COURSE IS A VALID SUBSTITUTION FOR THIS COURSE. There are no substitutions, you MUST complete this certification to operate as a team Trainer.

Hockey Trainer Ontario REFRESHER

This is the refresher course that must be taken every three years by AUGUST 1ST. If you miss this deadline, you must take the entire Trainer certification again. Individuals are responsible for maintaining their certification.

Organizational Structure

Respect in Sport Parent (RIS-P)

This certification must be completed by each player's parent/guardian. It is NOT the same as Respect in Sport Parent (RIS-P) and they cannot be substituted for one another. It only needs to be done once, and one certification can be used for all players in the same family.

VSC Screening Submission Portal

Use this link to submit your completed Vulnerable Sector Check, submit a Screening Declaration, or a receipt for a Vulnerable Sector Check (the OHF will not accept receipts between April 1 - July 30). The OHF will not accept anything other than a Vulnerable Sector Check. The OHF will only communicate directly with you about your VSC, and will email you confirmation when they have accepted your submission. PLEASE SAVE A PDF COPY OF YOUR VSC!!! You will be unable to download a copy from your local police station once 30 days have passed. Please save a copy in case there are any issues. Please note that BLOMHA does not reimburse volunteers for their VSC cost. Use the Letter to Request VSC linked in this library to get a free VSC.

Create an HCR profile

All bench staff (on-ice helpers included) MUST have a Hockey Canada Registration profile. This link will take you to a FREE on-ice helper or bench staff registration. Begin the registration, and when you get to "participant selection," click "add a participant." You will be prompted to search for your profile, and if none appears, you will be prompted to "create a new participant." DO NOT SELECT YOUR PLAYER'S NAME AT ANY POINT DURING THIS PROCESS.

How to Update HCR Profile

This document takes parents/guardians or bench staff, step by step, through the Hockey Canada Registration profile update process. Please note that every single player (parent/guardian) and bench staff member are responsible for ensuring their profile is up to date. If your profile is not up to date, you will not play in any tournaments.

Hockey Canada Injury Form

Please note that this form is required to be submitted to the BLOMHA office within 30 days of the injury occurring. If you are unable to send it in within that period, please reach out to your office rep.

Player Medical Info Sheet

Every player on the team must have a completed Medical Info Sheet. These sheets must be brought to the rink every single time your time is on the ice. They should be kept on hand with the Team Trainer, however Managers can have a copy as well (if they want).

Team Trainers should use this to ensure they submit the appropriate paperwork for all injuries.

Return to Play form

This form MUST be filled out any time a player sustains an injury that relates to their head. This includes activities outside of hockey as well. If a player is complaining of head pain whatsoever, this form is REQUIRED.

Preliminary Injury Report
